Ela Darling is Spearheading VR Porn

In our last segment, The Future of Virtual Reality Porn, we discussed the status of virtual reality for adult entertainment productions. The consensus was that one day virtual reality had the power to potentially shape the future of pornography. It appears that in just a year, that future has become a virtual reality.

With VR becoming common place in the mainstream, studios appear to be scrambling to adopt the new technology as quickly as possible. The shift toward virtual reality, however, may not be exclusive to studio productions. On the contrary, virtual reality in porn may gain ground quickest in the arena of webcams, where things are far more personal. This move makes sense, because virtual reality highlights the realism of an experience, and the most realistic experience is one that’s living in real time.

Ela Darling’s Virtual Reality Camshows

For those who don’t know her, Ela Darling is a self-described “ladies’ porn star.” According to FreeOnes, a website that categorizes and ranks various pornographic performers, Darling’s been in the business for more than a few years but hasn’t yet become a common or rather widespread name among enthusiasts. Recently, however, she’s begun to turn heads by becoming the queen of virtual reality porn.

Her start in this market certainly wasn’t made alone.  Courtesy of a new service offered by CAM4, Ela Darling has changed the tone to focus on one-to-one sessions. In fact, by making it all about a singular exclusive viewing with one’s favorite performer, Darling and CAM4 hope to market virtual reality as the best possible porn experience,

You may have already heard of VR Porn or seen other adult VR sites online, but nothing comes close to the feeling of being in the private bedroom of your favourite cam girl. Get ready for live VR!

What’s most interesting about this concept, is that it’s skipping a major evolutionary step in virtual reality. Instead of going through the motions of static, pre-recorded sessions, Darling and CAM4 could be innovating straight to the real-time experience.

If what Ela Darling is doing with CAM4VR sticks, the standard means of production may be threatened by a far more exclusive and tailored experience. Almost as if the user is engaging in an anonymous escorting experience, from the comfort of their own home. Despite the potential legal ramifications that could come with such a thing, the innovation is certainly on the cutting edge. With teledildonics, the possibilities are virtually endless.

Move over theoretical sexbot, we’ve got the makings of something even better. Imagine coming home from a long day, and logging in to find your favorite performer ready to go for a hot session? What an interesting thing to see coming out of Porn Valley.

The Future of Virtual Reality Porn

Despite the fact that the Oculus Rift has not yet been released as a consumer product, virtual reality porn has been quite a popular topic as of late. Consider for a moment how sex toys have affected the adult entertainment industry over the past two decades. You can even purchase a replica fleshlight of Nina Hartley, something that would not have been possible only a short time ago. Now the industry has changed once more to provide a more realistic pornographic experience, by mainstreaming virtual reality porn.

Virtual Reality Porn: The Next Step in Entertainment

According to Dean Takahashi of VentureBeat, both Lovense and SugarDVD are independently working toward combining virtual reality and pornography to create a new standard in adult entertainment. In addition to both, Virtual Real Porn is also making waves as one of the first websites devoted completely to virtual reality pornography.

Lovense is an organization that spearheads cutting edge sex toys, also known as teledildonics. By integrating concepts like wireless and bluetooth technology, Lovense improves the capability of the standard sex toy. They even offer products for long distance couples. In combination with existing material, their products work through haptic feedback. Haptic feedback is a condensed way of describing the information communicated through touch. Those feelings, through movement and motion, like vibration, compression, or force, help reinforce what is visual.

SugarDVD, the pornography streaming service, according to Takahashi, is working with motion capture studios to provide virtual reality porn material. In late 2014 they held a Reddit AMA, or ask me anything, in part to discuss their Oculus Rift app. On the subject of immersion, SugarDVD replied,

Hopefully more immersive than VR games right now, as we are scanning and animating real live porn stars, not the stereotypical CG rendering. It’ll still be distinguishable from real life, but we’re focused on making the experience fully customizable, so users can play out a wide variety of scenarios.

Could Riley Reid be part of your virutal reality porn?

Apparently the Oculus Rift store will be comfortable with adult entertainment. However, that’s not going to stop organizations like Virtual Real Porn from being first to the market. Virtual Real Porn is already partnering with Lovense, and working with both Oculus Rift and Homido. Unlike the free alternatives Takahashi briefly elaborates on, Virtual Real Porn is set to provide a higher quality experience. Virtual Real Porn provides the following feature list:

  • 180º Stereoscopic 3D
  • Head Tracking
  • Binaural Sound: 360º Coverage

Virtual Reality Porn is Real

It wasn’t so long ago that the world was first introduced to Strange Days, a film from 1995 that explored the concept of virtual reality recordings, and converting the feelings associated with those recordings into real experiences. And yes, there was virtual reality sex in that film. Now, however, the world is faced with real virtual reality porn. Sexual experiences pre-recorded and experienced on a more immersive scale than ever before.

Strange Days anticipated that  virtual reality would be available at the turn of the millennium—at least by 1999. While it may have taken more than a decade and a half to reach a comparable level of immersion, the fact remains that virtual reality porn is here. It’s a massive change to the industry, and in comparison to other early technologies, is relatively affordable. It will be interesting to see how virtual reality porn changes the shape of the adult entertainment industry in the years to come. Until then, we’ll have to rely on good old fashioned well made smut.
